    SW monsoon: TN received 45 per cent more rain than actual

    As many as 11 districts received heavy to very heavy rain, 16 districts witnessed heavy rain, 9 districts moderate rainfall and four districts recorded less rainfall, the regional meteorological centre said on Friday.

    CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu and Puducherry received 477 mm of rainfall in the Southwest Monsoon this year against the normal rainfall of 328 mm. It has recorded 45 per cent more than actual rainfall, which is the highest in the last 122 years in the Southwest monsoon season.

    As many as 11 districts received heavy to very heavy rain, 16 districts witnessed heavy rain, 9 districts moderate rainfall and four districts recorded less rainfall, the regional meteorological centre said on Friday.

    Meanwhile, several districts, including Chengalpattu, Madurai, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai received mild rains on Thursday evening and wee hours of Friday.

    RMC stated that light to moderate rain at a few places with isolated thunderstorms - lightning is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry - Karaikal area. Heavy rain is likely to occur in parts of Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Tiruvannamalai.

    The sky condition in Chennai is likely to be partly cloudy and it is expected that thunderstorms and lightning with light or moderate rain can occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperature in Chennai is likely to be around 33 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.
