TIRUVALLUR: Residents of Kakkalur Panchayat have requested the state government to open the brand new police station in their neighbourhood that has remained closed since its construction a few years ago.

More than 20,000 people reside in Kakkalur Panchayat in Tiruvallur district and there are more than 20 residential areas that are densely populated. Two years ago, a new suburban police station was constructed at Anjaneyapuram to provide resolution for complainants trying to report a crime.

However, the police station was never officially inaugurated and remains closed to this day, forcing the residents to approach the Tiruvallur Town police station that is several kilometers away, every time they have to report a crime. People also claim that the absence of cops in the area has given rise to an increased number of chain snatching and petty theft incidents. So, the residents of the area have requested the state government to open the police station in Anjaneyapuram and make it functional to ensure their safety and help lodge their complaints easily.
