    CHENNAI: Claiming that the DMK government is committed to provide world-class education to the students, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy said that the State has created a strong ecosystem supported by relevant policies and schemes to promote quality education.

    While delivering the inaugural address at the Conference on Education 4.0 with the theme ‘Investing in the future of jobs and skills organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, the southern region on Wednesday he said that the "Naan Mudhalvan" scheme is one of the ongoing initiatives the state to improve the skill sets of students studying in government schools.

    Mentioning that CII member companies are supporting this initiative to bridge the skill gap in students, he said that in addition to this, private organisations are also signing MoUs with the State government towards the promotion of skill development.

    On the sidelines of the function, the minister took up the present recruitment of assistant professors in the government colleges and said that about 4,000 vacanies related to assistant professors in the State-run institutions will be filled soon. The vacant posts will be filled through Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) in one year's time.

    Stating that there were more than 5,000 guest lecturers, who were discharging their duties of the vacant posts, the minister said that these lecturers will also retain their posts once they clear the competitive test conducted by TRB.

    Ruling out the reports that all guest lecturers would be "dismissed", Ponmudy said that "no one will be disqualified if they pass the test".

    "The persons, who were appointed as guest lecturers in government schools still have a chance to get the qualification and continue their work,” he added.
