    CHENNAI: As Deepavali festival to be celebrated on October 24, Tamil Nadu's DGP Sylendra Babu has announced regulations to celebrate the festival.

    * Substances permitted by the Supreme Court used in firecrackers alone should be brought and sold.

    * Only two hours, one in morning and one in evening, have been alloted to burst crackers. 6 am to 7 am in the morning; 7 pm to 8 pm in the evening.

    * Under Section 89 of the Environmental Protection Act, no cracker should be made or sold that exceeds the length of 4 metres and sound that exceeds 125 decibel.

    * Crackers shouldn't be burst nearby places prone to fire accident and near inflammable objects.

    * Elders should not let children burst crackers alone. Also, crackers shouldn't be burst close to animals.

    * Cracker manufacturing units need to be equipped with fire dousing equipments in case of accidents.

    * CCTV cameras to be installed to surveil shopping complexes to prevent missing cases.

    * Crackers should not be carried in vehicles such as bus, bikes and trains.

    * Squad deployed to arrest people if found driving while drunk.

    * People are to dial 100 (Police helpline), 112 (Firestation helpline) to report cases of rescue and fire accidents, and contact 108 to report medical emergencies.

    The DGP urged public to act according to the above regulations and extended wishes for a happy and safe Deepavali.
