DeTect: Three-year-old photo shared as that of Kabul blasts

CHENNAI: An explosion had occurred at a mosque in Kabul last week. According to the Afghan police, a total of 21 people were killed and 33 were injured in the blast. After the news broke, a number of media outlets and social media users began sharing a purported photo of the blast in Kabul. Alt News performed a reverse image search and found a report on Taliban’s attack on Kabul on July 1, 2019. The viral image pertains to the aftermath of this blast in Kabul. This image was attributed to photojournalist Haroon Sabawoon.
