DeTect: Did UP selectively pull up mosques for power theft?

CHENNAI: Recently, it was reported by some news sites that 400 mosques and madrasas in UP’s Rampur were operating on stolen electricity. It was claimed that the electricity department issued notices to those running the mosques and madrasas asking them to install electricity connections within a week. If they failed to comply, action would be taken after an inspection campaign. Alt News found a newspaper article that said 59 temples and 115 mosques in Rampur were asked to get electricity connections. There was no communal angle to the directive.
