Citizen journalist jailed for coronavirus reporting in China

A citizen journalist is at the wrong end of the law enforcement in China for reporting from Wuhan, the then virus hotspot.

Zhang Zhan, a 37 year old lawyer turned journalist was in detention since May for reporting from the site where the contagion originated.

Now she may face prison sentence for five years. Only in September she was allowed to meet her lawyer.

China is one of the countries that holds the dubious distinction of freedom in reporting.

Zhan is not the first one to have not been 'tolerated' by Chinese government, three other, Chen Qiushi, Li Zehua and Fang Bin went 'missing.'

Qiushi despite resurfacing is still under the scanner of the Communist regime, Zehua reportedly was in quarantine with Bin's whereabouts still unknown.

On September, virologist Dr Li Meng had her records expunged as she fled and turned a whistleblower in exposing 'human role' in the virus' inception.
