The film that is directed by Rajavel Krishna and bankrolled by R Dhamodharan of Turning Point Productions has actors Charle and Mime Gopi in lead roles.

Talking to DT Next, Dhamodharan said, “Following all the positive feedback at the CIFF, we have decided to release the film in over 100 screens in Tamil Nadu on January 3. The message in Pizhai have resonated with the audience and critics, who has given us a thumbs up. This has boosted our morale to release the film.”

Dhamodharan said that the story deals with how wrong decisions can impact one’s life in a huge way. “We regret a few bad decisions we take and it would be too late for us to even rectify it. That is what Pizhai is all about,” he added.

When asked if the stance of Tamil Nadu’s Theatre Owners’ Association on releasing a film in OTT platforms 100 days after its release would do good for small films too, he replied, “75 per cent of business is done even before a film hits the screens. Producers do noteven know the revenue their film makes once it is in theatres. Also, theatre owners do not come forward in screening small budget films and prefer star-studded films. They charge somewhere between Rs 200 and Rs 500 for a big film. Which means, they should be charging onlyRs 80 to 100 for small films. They need tocorrect themselves before pointing fingers at producers.”
