The boats C-435 and C-436 would be formally inducted in October upon completion of “extensive trials on fitted equipment and machineries,” a Coast Guard release said. The boats are part of the 36 Interceptor Boats project contract which was signed between the Ministry of Defence and Larsen and Toubro Shipyard in March 2010.

Of the 36 boats, 24 were delivered by Larsen and Toubro Shipyard Hazira, Surat and 10 by Larsen and Toubro, Shipyard, Kattupalli near Chennai.

The two interceptor boats are equipped with state-of-theart sensors including navigation and latest communication systems, capable of operating in tropical conditions.

Each boat would be manned by 12 crew including one officer and two subordinate officers. The boats were launched by Coast Guard Chief Medical Officer S Sathiya in the presence of Chennai Port Trust Chairman P Raveendran, it added.
