Tragedy struck a family in the city when the two-year-old girl succumbed to injuries on Thursday night at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital after she accidentally fell into vessel filled with hot water more than a week ago in Tiruvottiyur.
The deceased was identified as M Shivanisree of Shanmughapuram, the youngest daughter of Manikandan and Janani couple.
Manikandan works as a mechanic while Janani is a homemaker. According to the police, the girl was playing at home along with her elder sister on January 7 evening when she accidentally fell into the vessel filled with hot water.
The child’s mother had kept the hot water filled vessel on the floor before taking it to the bathroom when the incident happened.
“The children were running around inside the house when the girl stumbled and fell into the vessel,” said police. “Nobody expected such a turn of event. Before the girl’s mother took the hot water filled vessel to the bathroom the mishap happened,” said police who added that the incident has left the family shocked and shattered.
Shivanisree suffered serious burns and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, on Thursday night, the girl succumbed to her injuries without responding to treatment. Sathangadu police has registered a case in connection withincident.
