23-yr-old killed by girlfriend’s ex, brother

Niranjan of Manthopu in Tambaram, a tattoo artist, was in a relationship with Amalavathy (25) of Kattankulathur, a beauty parlour staff. Few years ago, she was in a relationship with Dinesh (31) of Kattankulathur. But her parents got her married off to a man from Kancheepuram.

After her husband died a few months ago, Amalavathy was living with her mother. She became friends with Niranjan on Facebook. Meanwhile, Dinesh proposed to her, which she turned down. Dinesh warned her against continuing relationship with Niranjan, which she ignored. Dinesh then informed her parents about it.

Dinesh and Amalavathy’s younger brother Sabarinathan (19) planned to kill Niranjan. Around 8 pm on Tuesday, as Niranjan was returning on his two-wheeler, the duo along with friends Arun (19), Balaji (19) and Gokul (21) followed on a car and attacked him with wooden logs. They escaped from the spot after confirming he was dead.

Maraimalai Nagar police arrested them on Wednesday morning and detained Amalavathy for further inquiry.
