Jai Bhim: Chennai police registers FIR under Copyright Act

CHENNAI: Sastri Nagar police station in Chennai have registered a FIR under Sec.63 (a) of Copyright Act based on a complaint against film director, T J Gnanavel and the production house, 2D Entertainment, on allegations of story theft for the movie, Jai Bhim starring actor Suriya.

Police said that V Kulanjiyappan, on whom a character was depicted in the movie had filed a complaint that the filmmaker and the production house did not pay the royalty as promised, after listening to the stories of police excess in Kammapuram police station in 1993.

Kulanjiyappan, in his complaint alleged that Gnanavel met him at his residence in January 2019 and sought out for details of the events. The makers promised to pay each of us Rs 50 lakh as Royalty amount for our stories and also made tall claims about share in the profits.

Apart from not keeping the promises, the makers also depicted them and their community in bad light, the complainant said and stated that the victims in the original case have been economically boycotted by the filmmakers.

Chennai Police registered a case after a direction from the magistrate court.
