Loss of words: Seeman mourns Kabilan daughter’s death

CHENNAI: NTK Chief Seeman on Saturday expressed his condolences on the demise of Thoorigai, daughter of Tamil lyricist and writer Kabilan, who died of suicide at her residence in MMDA colony, Arumbakkkam.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the 28-year-old woman, an MBA graduate took the extreme step after an argument with her parents over her wedding. It is worth noting that Thoorigai regularly wrote articles in leading English media and also ran an online magazine called "Being Women". Apart from being a writer, she also worked as a costume designer and stylist.
Taking to Twitter, he tweeted, "I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn the passing away of Thoorigai, the daughter of renowned film lyricist and poet Kabilan. I agonize without words to comfort and console the brother, who has lost his dearest daughter. I share in the grief of my brother Kabilan and his family in Kodungaiyur." (sic)
Police sources said that on Friday afternoon the deceased’s mother had tried speaking with her, but since the door was locked from inside for a long time, she sought neighbours’ help to break open the door.
Arumbakkam police have registered a case and sent her body to the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital for autopsy. Further investigations are on.
