Annamalai, party cadres booked for protesting without permission

CHENNAI: City Police have booked Tamil Nadu BJP President, K Annamalai and more than 350 party cadres, including party leaders, VP Duraiswamy, for unlawful gathering at Valluvar Kottam on Tuesday demanding action against DMK spokesperson Saidai Sadiq for his derogatory remark against women leaders of the saffron party.

On Tuesday evening, party cadres led by Annamalai gathered at Valluvar Kottam and condemned the DMK functionary for his disparaging statement against the party women leaders Khushbu Sundar, Gayathri Raghuram, Namitha, Gautami Tadimalla and a few others. The four actors did not participate in the protest.

They were rounded up by the police and detained at a wedding hall in the vicinity and relased later in the evening.

Subsequently, Nungambakkam police have booked Annamalai and the cadres under Sections of the IPC, including 143 (unlawful assembly), 290 (public nuisance), 353 (deterring public servant from discharge of duty) among others.

The Cyber Crime wing of Chennai City Police have booked a DMK functionary, Saidai Sadik for his derogatory remarks on woman actors who have joined the BJP.

Sadik made the remarks at an event celebrating the achievements of DMK government, held at RK Nagar recently. A video clip of his speech went viral in social media and was criticised widely, including DMK MP, MK Kanimozhi, who too took to Twitter and condemned the remarks made against women and said that the party doesn’t condone such views.
