Rain holiday declared for Chennai, suburbs on 16.10.2024
Rain holiday has been extended for all educational institutions and government offices other than essential services in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai and Chengalpattu for another day. READ HERE:
On Monday evening, several cars were seen parked on the Velachery flyover, in anticipation of heavy rainfall.
Rumours even spread around alleging that traffic police were imposing fines on the cars parked on the flyover. However, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police Department (GCTP) later clarified that no such fines were being imposed.
They also advised to ensure that the parking of vehicles does not affect vehicular movement.
The GCTP will help citizens find nearby parking spots, ensuring vehicles are parked safely, it added.

“From 6 am Monday to 6 am Tuesday, Chennai Corporation received 4.6 cm of rainfall. Sholinganallur and Teynampet received the maximum, 6.1 cm, while the least was Tondiarpet (2.8 cm) and Puzhal (3cm)," Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said. READ FULL REPORT HERE.
