COIMBATORE: The forest department in Kotagiri has fixed camera traps to monitor the movement of a mother tiger after a tiger cub was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Kotagiri-Mettupalayam National Highway.

The tiger cub was suspected to be run over by an unknown vehicle on Friday. “As its mother could be aggressive over losing the cub, five camera traps were fixed to monitor its movement in the Mamaram locality,” said an official.

Following the accident, the forest department has decided to fix caution boards and create awareness among tourists to go slow.

Meanwhile, the samples of vital organs from the carcass of the tiger cub have been sent for lab analysis in Chennai.
