MADURAI: Government schools in Kanniyakumari district would be equipped with enhanced infrastructure for the benefit of students, T Mano Thangaraj, Minister for Milk and Dairy Development said on Tuesday.

He was inspecting the sanitary complex built with private aid capital on the premises of Putheri Government Higher Secondary School there. Sanitation infrastructure is integral to a healthy way of life, he said addressing a programme organised by Helping Hands for the Helpless Trust a voluntary organization.

The Minister further said everyone’s ambition was to live a healthy life without frailty and disease. Stressing the need to be more hygienic and to make Tamil Nadu healthy, Chief Minister MK Stalin is taking various measures and in line with the wishes, the District Administration is poised to achieve its goal of making Kanniyakumari ‘clean and green.’

Sources said apart from the sanitary complex, the Government school in Putheri would also be renovated with furniture and a compound wall.

Chief Educational Officer R Murugan, Deputy Mayor of Nagercoil Corporation Mary Princy Latha and local body representatives of the Putheri panchayat union were present.

In a farsighted move, Kanniyakumari Collector PN Sridhar led a team effort aimed to make Kanniyakumari a ‘garbage –free’ district. To resolve waste management needs, the sewage treatment system plays a vital role and ban on single use plastics remains in effect.
