Tamilisai Soundararajan rejoins BJP in the presence of G Kishan Reddy, L Murugan, K Annamalai at Kamalalayam

CHENNAI: Tamilisai Soundararajan, a former Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry on Wednesday rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party and revived her membership card.

Tamilisai, who came to Kamalalayam (State BJP headquarters) after five years, was given a grand welcome with aarti, bursting of firecrackers and sounding of drums.

In the presence of Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy, MoS L Murugan and Tamil Nadu BJP election in-charge Arvind Menon, Tamilisai rejoined the party and received her old membership card from state BJP president K Annamalai.

Addressing the gathering after reviving her membership card, Tamilisai said, "Today I got back my membership card which I handed over in 2019. This is a really happy day. It's not a hard decision, but a happy decision. I have rejoined the party with the intention of becoming an MP. I will strengthen the hands of Annamalai, L Murugan and other leaders as a cadre. For me, the post of BJP worker is more important than the post of the Governor."

She exuded confidence and said the ruling BJP will win more than 400 Lok Sabha seats in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

"I have taken the decision of rejoining the party to become an MP along with our 400 MPs. I have a desire to contest in the April 19 Parliamentary election. I will contest in whichever constituency the party advises me to field. No other party gives opportunities to women as much as the BJP. BJP has fully grown in Tamil Nadu. Lotus will definitely blossom in the state, " she noted.

Criticising the DMK's Lok Sabha poll manifesto, the former governor said, the election manifesto of the ruling DMK is very old and a failed one.

"The DMK, when sharing power at the Centre during UPA 1 and 2, did nothing on the gubernatorial post. The petrol and diesel price is low in the Union Territory of Puducherry when compared to Tamil Nadu. What did the DMK do to reduce the petrol and diesel price in Tamil Nadu in these two and a half years of governance?, " Tamilisai questioned.
