Vijay making moves for political entry: TVMI
Iyakkam proposes to start labour and workers unions to enhance presence across the State
CHENNAI: Fan-club- turned-welfare-organisation Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (TVMI) is all set to transform into a political party. Multiple sources with the Iyakkam told DT Next that the actor is working on the “principles and other ideological strategies” for his upcoming political entry.
The principles for the Iyakkam will be a combined one, which are carried forward by BR Ambedkar, EVR Periyar and K Kamaraj, added the highly placed sources confirming that the Makkal Iyakkam political policy will cover ideologies and subjects, including Dravidam, Thamizh Desiyam and Saathiyam.
TVMI general secretary Bussy N Anand said that the Iyakkam is working to strengthen its base like other Dravidian majors in the state and to start with Thozhir Sangham (trade union) will be extended across the state covering each district.
“To strengthen the Iyakkam, there are several wings such as the women’s wing, social media wing, youth wing, student wing have been formed district wise. Also, now we have a labour wing in Tirupur and surrounding districts in the West zone where the labourers are high in numbers. Further, we will form labour wings (trade union) across the state,” Anand said addressing reporters in Cuddalore after distributing uniforms to auto drivers.
“Although the Iyakkam is active all over India, we are focusing on strengthening it in Tamil Nadu now. Members of the Iyakkam are already involved in politics and holding various positions in local bodies across the state,” another top brass of the TVMI detailed to this newspaper confirming that the actor is preparing the base to take the political plunge any time.
Meanwhile, NTK spokesperson Idumbavanam Karthik said that actor Vijay has no political or ideological background and it is questionable that he will follow the principles of Ambedkar and Periyar.
“He (Vijay) is yet to announce his political entry. As for Vijay, he has no political or ideological background. So far, he has not spoken about any principle. He can announce any kind of principles, but whether he will follow them is questionable. Ambedkar, Kamaraj, Periyar are common leaders for TN. Anyone can talk about them. But make sure they follow the way they showed us,” he added.
Journalist Priyan said that Vijay wants to break away from the image of a film star and identify himself as a leader, who speaks for pro-Tamil Nadu principles and thereby register a political presence.
