Auto driver arrested for attempting to sexually abuse woman passenger

The KK Nagar police on March 30 night arrested an auto driver, who tried to sexually abuse a woman passenger. When his attempts failed, he snatched her purse and escaped.

Kalpana (22), name changed, a resident of III Main Road, MMDA Colony, Mathur, Manali had boarded autorickshaw near Kasi Theatre, Ashok Nagar. She wanted to reach Koyambedu after visiting a relative in Ashok Nagar.

When the vehicle neared a deserted place near Pallavan Hospital near Ashok Pillar, the autorickshaw driver demanded the girl to come and sit with him on the front seat. When the woman refused, he got on to the back seat and started to molest her. 

Kalpana shouted for help and managed to jump out of the auto. When his attempts to sexually assault her failed, he snatched her purse and sped away in the auto. However, the woman, managed to take a photo of the autorickshaw on her mobile phone and approached the KK Nagar with a complaint. Using his vehicle registration number, the police traced the autorickshaw driver S Balaji (25), a resident of Durgai Amman Nagar, Choolai Pallam, MGR Nagar from Tambaram. The wallet of the girl was also recovered from him. He was later produced before the magistrate court and remanded to judicial custody.

School correspondent held in schoolgirl suicide case

The Koyambedu police on Friday arrested a private matriculation school correspondent, Saravanan, who was accused of raping his 15-year-old niece, black mailing her and finally forcing her to self-immolate.  

Saravanan who went absconding was arrested after the suicide note of the girl reached the police. The victim, who was a class 10 student at a Government School at Virugambakkam, killed herself on Wednesday. 

Police had earlier registered a case under Section 174 CrPC first and later added Sections of IPC and POCSO Act. 

The suicide note left behind by the girl said that her uncle had raped her six months back and had continued to black mail her, forcing her to end her life. 

On Friday, parents gathered in front of the school run by the accused in Koyambedu and staged a sit in. They wanted Saravanan to be arrested. The letter had also accused Sasikala, wife of Saravanan, for torturing her along with him. Police said Sasikala is still absconding and have launched a hunt for her.

2 youth held for bike theft 

The Koyambedu police on Friday arrested two youth on charges of stealing a two-wheeler. Police arrested K Sivakumar (20) and S Manoj (18), both residents of Chetpet and recovered a stolen Bajaj Pulsar bike from them. A police patrolling team arrested the youth when they were on vehicle- check duty behind the Koyambedu vegetable market on Friday morning. Police stopped the youth when they were found to be over-speeding and questioned them. The cops grew suspicious over the answers and picked them up for a detailed interrogation. The youth later confessed that they had stolen the bike from Guduvanchery and also admitted to have been caught in another two-wheeler theft case at Chitlapakkam.
