The actor won by a margin of 144 votes after winning 478 votes out of the total 1,059 votes to beat Radhakrishnan.

The voting which began at 8 am on Sunday morning saw leading actors like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth coming to the venue early to cast their votes.

The counting began at 5 pm and the results were declared at 8 pm. Prakash Raj and Gautham Menon from Vishal’s team won the Vice-Presidents’ posts. A few months back Vishal first told DTNext that they will be contesting in the council elections which was originally scheduled for January. He said, “Youngsters will definitely contest in the council elections and bring a change in the body just like Nadigar Sangam.”

Post his victory on Sunday, talking to media, the actor said, “We will all work towards the welfare of the Producers’ Council. We will be bringing in major positive changes. For now, our focus is on the farmers’ issue and another issue pertaining to the council.” He also challenged websites pirating Tamil movies and said they are here to curb piracy.

It is to be noted that the Actor-Producer was removed from the council for his derogatory comments in an interview. Vishal later expressed regret for his comments after which the High Court intervened a second time to reinstate him into the council. Vishal filed nomination for the President’s post on the very same day.

SR Prabhu from Vishal’s team also won the treasurer’s post. Rajinikanth was among the first stars on Sunday to cast his vote in the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council election.

Gautham Vasudev Menon, KE Gnanavel Raja, AL Azhagappan, AM Rathnam, Prakash Raj, Mysskin and SA Chandrasekaran were among producers and directors from Kollywood who contested for various posts.

The election was conducted under the supervision of Madras High Court Justice (retd) S Rajeswaran.
