Stating that the court has not mentioned any charges against him, Palaniswami said: “Since there was a mention of the Chief Minister in the case, I appealed against the HC verdict.”

The Chief Minister said an expert committee led by a retired PWD Chief Engineer has been created for the purpose of constructing check dams across the Cauvery to save excess water. “For the past four months, the panel members have been visiting every district. They are studying the possibilities of constructing check dams where ever possible,” he said.

On the new regulator across the Kollidam in Mukkombu, the CM said, “Once the detailed project report has been finalised, tenders would be called for and the work will commence subsequently.”

Earlier, Palaniswami worshipped at the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangam. He was given a warm reception at the Ranga Ranga gopuram with full temple honours.

He later left for Pudukkottai to attend the wedding of Pudukkottai district secretary P K Vairamuthu’s son Kumarasamy.
