New low pressure to form on November 18

After cyclonic storm Gaja caused widespread destruction across Tamil Nadu districts, weatherman said that the system moved westwards and is likely to weaken into a deep depression. Due to cyclonic circulation, another low-pressure system is likely to form over the central parts of south Bay of Bengal in a day’s time (November 18).

Meanwhile, Gaja brought 6 per cent rainfall on a single day. “The rainfall received between November 1 and 16 is around 22 cm against the normal 29 cm,” said the deputy director general of RMD, S Balachandran. Warning issued to fishermen was lifted on Friday afternoon and an alert has been issued over central parts of South Bay on Sunday and over Southwest Bay for the following two days.
