Dance festival kicks off at Mamallapuram

The Indian Dance Festival was launched on Sunday at Mamallapuram, an initiative of Tamil Nadu Tourism with the support of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Running from December 23 to January 20, the extravaganza will highlight important classical and folk-dance forms on stage to enlighten foreign tourists about the cultural tourism potential of the country.

Around 60 performances of various kinds of dances, such as Karagam, Kavadi, Thappattam, Oyilattam and Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Kathak, will be executed by both established and upcoming artistes. The event was introduced as the Mamallapuram Dance Festival 26 years ago, and was later upgraded as Indian Dance Festival.
