As repeated protests by the villagers against opening a liquor shop failed to evoke any response, the people have announced their decision to boycott the polls. They distributed pamphlets on Sunday among the people in the village, seeking their support in boycotting the polls. The irate villagers have also announced to block the arterial Sathy-Coimbatore National Highway on Monday morning.

Construction works were underway over the last few days to establish the liquor shop at Gandhi Nagar. On Saturday, the villagers sat in protest in front of the shop. Following assurance from the police, the construction works were immediately suspended.

Yet, the villagers sat all through the night in front of the shop till Sunday morning on suspicion that the works would resume the next day. As expected, the workers turned up in the morning, but were chased away by the protesting public. The villagers have now decided to intensify their protest by boycotting polls and holding a road roko on Monday.

Similarly, the people of Ariyampalayam stopped efforts to put up a Tasmac shop at Ariyampalayam on Sathy Road. As tension prevailed, the Sathyamangalam police rushed to the spot and convinced the protesting villagers to leave.
