18L school students’ Aadhaar details don’t match EMIS data

Education Department officials recently found out that the data available with them on EMIS did not match the Aadhaar Data of more than 10 per cent of the students. A senior Directorate of School Education official told DT Next that, at present, there are about 1.31 crore students between Classes 1-12 in about 58,700 government, government-aided and self-finance schools. He said that government had recently ordered that student’s details in EMIS should exactly match the information given in their Aadhaar cards. This was when the glitch was revealed.

“Over 18.59 lakh student’s details in EMIS do not match the Aadhaar data,” he said, adding there were errors in spellings of names, dates of birth, addresses and even house door numbers.

Stating that statistics of details were taken district wise, the official said Kancheepuram tops the list with more than 2.48 student’s details being erroneous. “Thiruvallur and Chennai district have 2.2 lakh and 2.13 lakh student’s details that do not match with Aadhaar and EMIS information,” he said, adding Vellore has 2.14 lakh students in the mismatch list.

The official also pointed that of the total 18.59 lakh students, about 60% information was given by  the schools. “This has affected smart card distribution to students besides disbursement of student beneficiary schemes,” the official said.

All the schools were instructed to display the students mismatched Aadhaar details on the notice board for correction. “It was also instructed that the correct information be updated by January,” he added.
