Jayakumar rebuts Stalin with details of policemen deaths during DMK rule

“People and policemen of the state knew well about the fact that policemen were safe during the AIADMK rule, but it was in DMK period that sizable number of cops were murdered. The state government has reacted fast in the case of SSI Wilson murder case as even DGP JK Tripathi himself visited the spot and ordered swift investigation,” said Jayakumar in a statement.

After SSI Wilson, from Kanniyakumari, was murdered recently Stalin announced Rs 5 lakh as solatium to his family and criticised the state by stating that TN is ranked number one in in law and order, but policemen are unsafe.

Jayakumar by recalling the previous incidents said that it was during DMK period that policemen were unsafe. “On January 7, 2010, sub-Inspector Vetrivel was attacked by a gang with weapons in Tirunelveli. Though DMK Ministers were on the spot they did not help Vetrivel and the policeman died on the way to hospital, but in this rule on many occasions, Ministers have helped policemen and public, and saved their lives,” said Jayakumar.

He also said that similarly on November 17, 1999, prisoners of Chennai Central Prison launched an attack on the officials in which a policeman was killed. The law and order situation, at that time, was so bad that deadly weapons reached prisons so easily. Similarly, another prison official Jayaprakash, who worked in Madurai Central Prison, was murdered by a gang on his way to work on August 29, 1997.

Jayakumar further recalled another incident where a woman SI was attacked by maid working in the house of Selvi, sister of Stalin. “When a woman SI was on duty in the midnight of August 24, 2011, a youth came drunk in a bike and when the SI tried to take him under custody his mother pulled her son out of the police vehicle and manhandled the SI. The woman worked as a maid in Selvi’s house and the incident was announced as example for DMK’s affiliation towards law and order by late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, in the Assembly,” saidJayakumar.
