The land, measuring around 1.5 acre that belonged to Veerakaliamman temple, Athalur, near Pookkolai in Peravurani, was maintained by one Muthulakshmi, who was paying rent to the temple. However, after the demise of Muthulakshmi, the land was maintained by her son-in-law Prasad, but he had not paid any rent to the temple.
Later, Prasad approached the Pattukkttai Sessions Court and appealed that the land belonged to him as he was residing there for a long time. However, the HR and CE submitted the supporting documents that the land belonged to the temple.
On Friday, the court ordered that the entire piece of land that has been enjoyed by Prasad belonged to the temple and ordered Prasad to vacate immediately. Subsequently, the encroachment was removed in the presence of the temple Executive Office (incharge) Chidambaram and the court officials amidst tight police security.
