Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy in a press release here on Saturday, said the management of the Puducherry Cooperative Milk Producers Federation which has been procuring, processing and selling milk under the banner of ‘PONLAIT’, has been asked to buy milk from its Karnataka counterparts to meet the shortage faced in the former French colony.

Puducherry has been hit by deficit supply for a few days and needs nearly 1 lakh litres of milk everyday but the local milk production has come down by 50 per cent of its requirement which forced the federation to procure milk from outside.

However, the situation has worsened now as there is shortage of milk both at local co-operative societies and from sources outside Puducherry.

With many facing difficulty in getting milk for a few days now, a representation was sent to the Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy by a section of consumers. Following this, the Chief Minister has asked the Puducherry federation to get milk from the milk producers’ society in Karnataka, the release said.
