It all started when a CMC patient Monika from Kolkatta, who is staying on Gandhi road, opposite the CMC Hospital, noticed the two stray dogs in that area, whose mouths were so affected by some disease that made them unable to eat anything. She posted the pictures of the two dogs on the VOSD (Voice Of Stray Dogs), seeking help from anybody in Vellore, adding the rider that the costs for treatment would be borne by her.
While one dog’s face was full of sores and distended, the other’s tongue hung out in a curve that both found it difficultto eat.
The page viewed by many resulted in tagging the name of the Chennai-based software engineer Dinesh Saravanan, who is known for his weekend social work. Viewers suggested that Monika contact him for further help.
Monkia did so and so Dinesh got in touch with her and then also went to Gandhi road to see the two dogs for himself. When he noticed their precarious condition, he sought the help of the Vellore Corporation’s dog catchers.
But as it was a Sunday, he was told that staff would be available for help in catching the two canines only on Monday. VOSD was informed of this, and they too okayed the idea, promising to send an animal ambulance to reach Vellore by 12 noon on Monday.
