Governor, leaders, Chief Justice appeal to support PM’s Janata curfew
Urging the people to extend support to the ‘Janata Curfew’ on Sunday, Governor Banwarilal Purohit has made a personal appeal to the people of the state to adhere to the following few guidelines outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the interest of the safety of all the citizens and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Requesting the youth of the state to spread awareness about Sunday’s programme, the Governor also appealed to every individual to call at least 10 people over phone every day, explaining to them how to protect themselves from coronavirus.
“The success of a people’s curfew on March 22 and the experience gained from it, will also prepare us for our upcoming challenges,” he said and appreciated the action taken by the state to prevent COVID -19, especially by closing all types of educational institutions, commercial establishments, clubs, social functions, conferences, and alsoreligious places.
Meanwhile, political parties, including the opposition DMK on Friday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a ‘Janata curfew’ on Sunday. DMK chief MK Stalin described it as a “clear announcement,” while Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan said he stood in “full solidarity” with the Prime Minister.
Speaking in the Assembly, Stalin said the coronavirus issue was “growing” day-by-day. “Our Prime Minister has made a clear announcement that nobody should go out from the morning till evening on Sunday,” he said while urging for curtailing the presentAssembly session.
NDA constituent PMK welcomed Modi’s call for a ‘Janata curfew,’ saying it should be made a routine for the next three weeks.
Chief Justice AP Sahi, in a letter tiled ‘A thought and sincere request,’ appealing to the lawyers, litigants and visitors said, “Let us take a judicious resolve and lead the citizenry to comfort and solace by our passive actions and active understanding. We all have to stand together as this duty and responsibility is not only governmental, but it is also social and more particularly individual.”
Kamal called for “extraordinary measures” in “this extraordinary situation,” while supporting the Prime Minister. “I call upon my fans, my friends and my people in support of the cause on March 22, Sunday, 7 am to 9 pm #JantaCurfew,” he said in another tweet and tagged top actors Rajinikanth, Vijay, Ajith, Surya, Vikram and Dhanush among others.
