Inter-caste lovers committed suicide on the railway track near Ambur on Thursday night. They were run over by a Bengaluru bound express train.

According to police, Ramadoss (29) son of Kothandan of Samarishikuppam near Gudiyattam and Nandini (22) daughter of Umapathy of Poongalumpudur near Alangayam were in love. As they belonged to different communites - the girl was a Vanniyar and the boy belonged to the SC community – their alliance was opposed by both parents.
Moreover, Nandini was married off Sivalingam three and a half years ago, but due to differences of opinion she returned to her parent’s house. Sources revealed that the lovers stayed for two days in the house of a person related to Ramadoss and on Thursday night went to the railway track at Pachakuppam, about eight km from Ambur.
Sources revealed that the couple sat on the railway track and spoke for a long time after which they decided to end their lives by committing suicide. Both placed their heads on the track and took a selfie and in a short while they were run over by an express train whichpassed that way.
Locals, who saw the bodies alerted the Jolorpet Railway Police and the Ambur Town Police. Ambur DSP Sachidanandam visited the spot. The bodies were sent to the Ambur Government Hospital for post mortem while the Railway Police registered a case and are investigating after notifying both the families. Police on checking the mobile phone recovered from the spot viewed the selfie taken before their death.
