It is condemnable that the Union Statistics and Project Implementation Ministry, after announcing that it would suspend MPLADS only for only 2020-21 and 2021-22 fiscals, has issued a circular for cancelling MPLADS for 2019-20 even while the funds were allocated and works started for the year, Stalin said.

Remarking that suspending something that should be given as a matter of right and snatching away something already given would not qualify for tradition, Stalin, in a statement issued in this regard, said that it was not only worrisome, but the Union government, which is not ready to set right the economy and distribute relief to the people affected by coronavirus, was also insulting people’s representatives by snatching away their rights and suspending their LADS funds for three years.

Stating that suspension of MPLADS makes one doubt the commitment of the Centre to coronavirus relief works, Stalin said the intention of the BJP to prevent Oppositions MPs from executing works was contrary to the principle of Parliamentary democracy.
