Lone TN student stuck in Ukraine seeks govt help to return

According to K Shanmugapriya (21), a resident from Thiruvalanchuzhi near Swamimalai in Kumbakonam, II year MBBS student in Ukraine, is among nine students from Tamil Nadu, who had applied to return by a Vande Bharat flight, after the university there was closed due to COVID 19 pandemic.

She said, while all others were given tickets for a flight scheduled on July 9, her ticket alone was not processed. Shocked by this, Shanmugapriya had sent a Whatsapp video to the government appealing to help her return to Thanjavur. She also appealed the Thanjavur district collector to help her return to her native place as all the fellow students had started for the return trip.

Kamaraj, father of Shanmugapriya, said that around 50 students from India were studying medicine along with his daughter in Ukraine and all had applied for return journey under the Vande Bharat scheme. All including Shanmugapriya received the acknowledgement. Since there was a network issue, the fare of Rs 47,000 got delayed and so her name was not added to the list of travellers.

“The panic stricken Shanmugapriya had sent a video to us in which she appealed the government to help her return to India as she is alone struck there”, said Kamaraj.
