The body of the eight-year-old girl, who was reportedly murdered by her 19-year-old neighbour, was found in a channel under a bridge at at Vadalivilai in Thoothukudi district on Wednesday.
Detailed enquiries revealed that the girl had gone to her neighbour’s house at the village to watch television. Meanwhile, the neighbor’s son, who is being suspected as the first accused in the alleged murder case, had a tiff with his father, who has been suffering from psychological problems.
The girl interfered and tried to pacify the neighbour. Angered by this, the teenager suddenly strangled the girl and she lost consciousness. As the girl did not revive for a long time, the youth checked and found that she had died. The youth along with the help of a friend, who was there in the house during the act, stuffed the body in a plastic drum and disposed it in a channel under a bridge at Vadalivilai at around 1 pm.
Both the youth, Muniswaran and Nitish, has been arrested in connection with the case. Following a complaint, Sathankulam police, who registered a case, are continuing their investigation.
