There are more than 10 godowns situated at Adakaratheru in Thanjavur and on Monday around 5 am, the people found a thick blanket of smoke emanating from one of the godowns owned by one Ramesh where he stocked plastic materials. Soon people passed on the information to the Thanjavur Fire and Rescue Department personnel who rushed to the spot in four fire engines and started dousing the fire. However, they could not succeed in it and so they sought the help of the fire personnel from Tiruvaiyaru and Orathanadu, who came in with another two engines and doused the fire by 11 am after fighting it for more than six hours. The cause and damage was yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, Collector M Govinda Rao visited the spot.
