Watch annual feast on TV/online, urges Basilica
The holy flag at the Velankanni Basilica will be hoisted as per schedule on August 29 and the church administration has urged devotees to stay home and watch the event live on TV/online while the district administration has ordered promulgation of section 144 to avoid gatherings in view of the annual festival.

The annual feast of Shrine Velankanni Basilica, which would be conducted for 10 days every year, used to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 8 and the festival used to attract devotees different states in the country and various parts of the world.
However, this year, owing to the COVID 19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown announced by the Central and state governments, the church administration has urged the devotees not to come to the Basilica for the annual event.
The church authorities also informed that the church events would be telecast live on TV and online portals and appealed to the devotees and their family members to stay at home and take care of their health.
Meanwhile, the Nagapattinam district administration restricted the arrival of devotees for the Velankanni festival by announcing the enforcement of Section 144.
District collector Praveen P Nair urged the people not to come to Velankanni by any mode of transport and warned strict action would be initiated against those violating the restrictions.
