“Thirumavalavan just read the contents of Manusmriti where women were mentioned as degraded class, but his comments were misinterpreted. BJP which supports and rallies for rape accused have no eligibility to speak on women,” said Ravikumar.

Thirumavalavan, in a recent video conference during his speech on social media, quoted the lines of Manusmriti and said that all Hindu women were mentioned in a degraded manner in the book. The speech of Thirumavalavan stirred controversy as the BJP and other Hindu outfits claimed that the VCK chief had insulted all Hindu women.

Following the controversy, a case was booked against Thirumavalavan and BJP supporters across the state staged protest against him.

However, there were support from other political parties for Thirumavalavan too. “Thirumavalavan did not speak against the modesty of women and Tamil Nadu police should withdraw the case against him. Thirumavalavan quoted Periyar’s verses thats why he opposed Manusmriti. But, his statement was misinterpreted by Hindu outfits and AIADMK government is supporting the outfits,” said Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi leader MH Jawahirullah, in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Thirumavalavan, while addressing reporters in Puducherry, said that the VCK will stage protest against the BJP on October 31.

“BJP and Sangh Parivar are trying to destroy the communal harmony in the state and to condemn them VCK will stage protest against them across the state, on October 31,” said Thirumavalavan.
