HC issues order to follow Covid protocol inside its premises

From June 20, masks are to be mandatory in the Madurai High Court, Judge PN Prakash said.

CHENNAI: In the wake of rising Covid cases in the State, the Madras High Court on Friday released a Covid-appropriate standard operating procedures to be followed inside the principal seat at Chennai and Madurai on its bench.

According to the HC Registrar, as a preventive measure to arrest the spread of the pandemic in the Madras High Court (both at the Principal Seat and Madurai Bench), Chief Justice has issued several directions which will be operative from June 20.

"Advocates, parties appearing in person, Advocates’ Clerks, Officers and Staff members shall strictly adhere to the Covid protocols, such as wearing face masks, washing hands frequently, sanitising and maintaining social distance inside the High Court campus, " the registrar said in the notification.

He further stated that the entry of litigants is restricted inside the High Court camps unless their presence is specifically required by the courts concerned in relation to the court proceedings.

"All the entrants shall sanitize their hands and undergo thermal scanning for temperature before frisking. Gathering in the corridors or any other place within the High Court camps shall be avoided, " the HC notification read.
