GO issued to prioritise permission for PwD to run roadside carts

The department of welfare for the differently-abled persons has stated that the urban local bodies should grant permission to differently-abled persons for running roadside carts.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has issued a government order granting permission on priority basis to differently-abled persons to run roadside carts.

The department of welfare for the differently-abled persons has stated that the urban local bodies should grant permission to differently abled persons for running roadside carts.

The government order stated that, as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, while various measures are being taken to improve the livelihood of disabled persons through employment, self-employment etc. schemes, priority to qualified disabled persons in running street cart shops should be done and the scheme should be started in the current financial year.

The government has asked urban local bodies to give preference for differently-abled persons in allotment held at each zone or ward level.

Moreover, in case of space allotments in selected locations, preference should be given to differently-abled persons.

While allotting alternative places for shops from places where sales are not permitted, priority should be given to allotment of shops near places where people with disabilities are already doing business, the government order stated.

The allotment of shops near residences of persons with disabilities in places should declared as places where roadside carts are allowed on priority.

The government, under the Tamil Nadu Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and regularization of street vending) Scheme, 2015, urban local bodies should issue certificates for street vending on a priority basis to persons with disabilities.

All the Town Vending Committee (TVC) are requested to issue appropriate guidelines and take necessary steps to implement this scheme.
