‘I was nervous to work with Jiiva initially’

Though her first two films - Joker and Merku Thodarchi Malai garnered rave response from the audience, actress Gayathri Krishna refrained from signing films for a long period of time. The actress was recently in the news for her wedding with cinematographer Jeevan Raj, with whom she was in love with for years.

Now, her third Tamil film, Jiiva’s Seeru is all set to hit the screens on December 210 and she is quite excited about the film. Ask her about it and she says, “It’s my first release post wedding and I am quite thrilled. In fact, my husband is more excited than I am. Even close to my wedding I was shooting for this film and it was quite hectic. Only after completing the shoot, my hubby and I, returned to Kerala.” She also adds that Seeru is her first commercial film, unlike her previous outings. “I was quite impressed with Rathna Siva’s narration and didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity. My character’s name is Elakiya and I will be seen playing Jiiva’s sister in the film. I play a pregnant woman and the film revolves around the beautiful relationship we share. It was quite challenging to play such a character throughout the film as I had to put a lot of effort to bring that look. Be it Isai from Joker or Eshwari from Merku Thodarchi Malai, both the characters are different and have unique persona. Elakiya is different, too. She is fun loving and thinks that her brother is her world.”

On working with Jiiva, she says, “I was little nervous to share screenspace with him initially, but later I understood how fun he was to work with. There was a lot to learn from him. It was nice to see an experienced artiste performing right in front of you.” Ask her about taking a break from Tamil films for a couple of years, she says, “After being part of critically acclaimed films, many friends in the industry suggested I do roles, which have a scope to perform. I don’t want to sign films just for the sake of it and waited for good opportunities. I was also doing Malayalam films and my first one was Street Light which had Mammootty in the lead. I can never forget shooting for it. It was an honour to act with him.”

On her upcoming projects, she says, “I am in talks for signing two Tamil films. It’s too early to reveal details about it. I will definitely continue doing films as my husband and in-laws are so supportive.”
