I have a flair for languages: Nakul Abhyankar
It has been almost a month since Vishal’s Action hit the screens. However, Nakul Abhyankar’s romantic number Azhage still sounds fresh among music lovers and is a chartbuster.

“I am personally a fan of romantic songs. Though I have always experimented across various song patterns i would prefer melodious numbers any day. Aadhi had called me and asked if I could record this song for him. I visited his studio and crooned it for him. Later, he called me to say that he has finalised my voice for the song. I am glad that Azhage has garnered tremendous response,” begins Nakul. The singer had a great run in 2018 with songs like CEO in the House in Vijay’s Sarkar, Koode in Malayalam and the Telugu version of AR Rahman’s Mazhai Kuruvi in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. Singing across languages is a natural process for him, feels the singer. “I am a Marathi, who was raised in coastal Karnataka. So, even as a child I could speak Marathi, Konkani, Tulu and Kannada. I have a flair for learning languages as pronunciation is the most important aspect in singing. I sit with my lyricists and ask them for the meaning and the way a word is emoted in a particular language,”he adds.
According to Nakul, being a singer is no cakewalk. “There is a lot of competition in the industry and there are new singers every week. To sustain oneself in this facet of cinema, we need to learn other nuances of music as well. There are hardly any music schools except for Rahman sir’s KM Conservatory for aspiring musicians to learn several aspects of music. Apart from singing, I sit with my composers Rahman sir and Hip Hop Aadhi among others and see how they go about working on a song. That way I can keep myself updated and get more work,” he concludes with a smile.
