When Aval Appadithan hit the screens in 1978, the movie opened to critical acclaim. The performance of the lead stars, Sripriya alongside Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, was well received.

Helmed by the late C Rudhraiya in his directorial debut, the film set a mark in Tamil cinema and was noted for its stylish filmmaking, story and dialogues.
Now, director Badri Venkatesh known for Baana Kaathadi and Semma Botha Aagathey, plans to remake the cult classic. Badri says, “The film spoke on feminism and the subject was too advanced for that time. Recently, I took to Twitter and told my niece to listen to its songs and I had also tagged Shruti Haasan.” The director adds, “The post caught some attention of fans and I ended up having a conversation with Shruti. We discussed how the plot still reflects the present day even after 42 years. I felt that the story needs to be retold for this generation.”
With Shruti on board, Badri has ideas to rope in Simbu to take Rajini’s role. “I will be delighted if Dulquer Salmaan takes Kamal Haasan’s role and I am also hoping to bring back Ilaiyaraaja sir to compose the music,” notes Badri.
While the producer and story for the remake are ready, Badri is however facing one obstacle. “As Rudhraiya sir has passed away, I do not know who owns the movie rights but I am hopeful that someone from the film fraternity will help me get in touch with them,” he concludes. Badri is currently waiting for the release of his next film, Plan Panni Pannanum.
