“The audience liked the second half of the film as it was more emotional. I wanted to try this story out in other genres too while penning the script. However, taking this story forward as an emotional thriller made more sense,” Sridhar told DT Next. Santhosh Prathap is known for his suave looks and chiselled physique. According to the director, he wanted to tap Santhosh’s full potential. “I liked his performance in Kadhai Thiraikadhai Vasanam Iyakkam. In Yen Peyar Anandhan, he was tied to the rope and all he had to do was to emote. He did that really well, which has done a world of good to the film. Moreover, he has played an aspiring director with the script touching upon the art of Therukoothu that takes the story to different places like Chennai and Madurai. Hence, Santhosh wouldn’t look like any of his characters from his previous films. Apart from his good looks, he is also a neat performer,” he added.
Ahead of the release of Yen Peyar Anandhan, Athulya Ravi, the heroine of the film courted controversy by staying away from promotions. “She wasn’t interested in promoting it right from the start. We asked her to tweet a few things pertaining to the film and she refused to. We didn’t further compel her to promote the film for us. With over million followers, had she promoted, more people would have been aware of the film’s release,” he concluded.
