Ponniyin Selvan-1 mini review: Mani Ratnam makes Indian cinema proud

CHENNAI: A lot has already been discussed about Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan-1 prior to its release today.

Dynamics of theatres and footfall revolved around this movie post COVID-19. The movie opens with Kamal Haasan's voiceover on Chola empire and where the story would lead to from thereon.

First half has brilliant performances by all cast members-- especially Karthi, Vikram, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Parthiban and Sarathkumar. AR Rahman like always steals the show.

The second half is a complete Jayam Ravi show with Jayaram and Karthi adding more value to it. Mani Ratnam's brilliance is etched all over. Finally, the VFX jinx has been broken.

Of all, Kalki would have been the happiest to witness a perfect portrayal of his depiction of Cholas. Mani Ratnam has stayed true to the novel as well as tp the art of filmmaking.

Ravi Varman's cinematography is top-notch. Thotta Tharani takes us back to the Chola period.
