Slice of Life: ‘Healthy food is the reason for growth in my business'
Every person has a story to share. This column puts the spotlight on the people of Chennai, faces we see but rarely interact with — giving a glimpse into their struggle.
Chennai
After I completed a course in catering, I started to work at a hotel in Ooty. My second job was with Green Park in Vadapalani and I stayed there for six years. As days passed, I lost interest in working as a chef with hotels. Also, I had an idea to start a business even when I was in college. I decided it is the right time and set up a chaat shop ‘Eat and Taste’ in Royapuram. My family, including my wife, were against the idea and asked me to think twice before starting the business. Even with a lot of opposition, I opened my shop. I had many expectations before starting the business. But it did not go very well as my timing was wrong. When I started there was bridge renovation work in process at Royapuram. Hence, the business did not go well. I faced a huge loss and could not gain any profit. But without losing any hope, I continued. Now, the response from the public has increased and as I studied catering, I know how to cook and serve healthy food. I believe that it was the reason for the growth of the business. I have two branches now and every day, at least more than 50 customers visit my shops. In the future, I would like to develop the business and expand the shops.
