Though reluctant to encourage his family members’ wish to enter active politics, the soft-spoken leader is finding it difficult due to the pestering family members. Due to this, the leader from south, with two aspiring sons and an influential brother, has been undergoing significant emotional turmoil of late. Much to his dismay, his family members are citing the example of DMK’s first family. Insiders say the situation has been simmering since Pongal, but the leader met the family members and managed to buy peace for a while. Now, with the State Election Commission resuming the pre-poll works hinting about the urban local body polls by April, the pestering has peaked once again. “In this backdrop, there are also a few more leaders waiting for growth in the party. The major allegation of the AIADMK against the DMK is nepotism. But now there is not much of a difference between the two parties,” fumed a party insider, adding that regional satraps have also started lobbying the party leadership asking to field their spouses and children to contest as Mayor and municipal chairperson candidates. What adds fuel to the fire is that this leader’s contemporary in the party has already successfully fielded his family members, and has achieved significant success in establishing his two sons.
