Slice of Life: ‘I started rearing cattle to provide good milk for my daughter’

When I was young, my father used to care for at least 15 cows on our land in Karaikudi. I was surrounded by animals and I had an affinity for them. My father would take care of them and I grew up watching him. Somewhere along the way, man gets caught up in our desire to make money. In that regard, we came to Chennai when I was young. I then decided to pursue engineering. I was working until 2016 when I decided to leave that job and pursue this passion. At the time, I was unsatisfied with the quality of milk that my daughter was drinking. So I decided to get a native breed cow. I have two cows now, and they each produce around 10 litres daily. This means I can also give some to the other children and the elderly in my area. People used to say that each house needs to have a cow. But people think that cow is only for its milk. That’s not the case. Cow urine has many benefits, including its role as a floor cleaner. People need to be educated about this. I am now studying the techniques employed by farmers around me so that I can also adopt them when rearing cows. I am not yet in the process of setting up my company as I still want to learn more.
