LIVING THE LIFE : ‘I haven't spent this much time with family ever'
The ongoing lockdown has forced many of us to alter the way we go about our daily routine. Chennaites share tales of the changes they have made to adapt to the new ‘normal’ of living and working with limited interaction

Working from home is not comfortable. I am used to WFH as my field of work is social media. But, when everything has to be handled over Zoom calls, it gets extremely difficult. Communications with designers and clients are getting more and more difficult and that makes me more innovative. Things are different at home, too. We have a schedule and everyone has to help in the chores. We try to eat on time so that dishes need not be done multiple times. We coordinate everything with the work timings and manage.
We realised that the three of us haven’t, for the last 21 years, spent so much time together. Lockdown gave us that. We have devoted time for exercise, too. My dad does yoga, I go to exercise and my mom reads or goes for a walk. She has also joined Instagram now. She follows all my friends and they’re all talking to her. They’re tagging her in posts and sending memes. I lost touch with my college seniors and school friends. Our lifestyles were very different. We’ve been getting in touch more and talking recently. We went back to those old days -- video calls and asking how they’ve been. This is the biggest positive. I am looking back at people who meant a lot to me. I have a huge family. We’re scattered all over the globe. They usually come over during the summer. We’ve made a commitment to meet weekly on Zoom. Since some marriages have been cancelled, we couldn’t meet. We’ve been playing Taboo and Scribble. Google Photos and Instagram have been throwing memories from the past, too.
