The stalker knew the victim and had called her over phone asking her to come out of the computer centre. When she stepped out, he attacked her with a knife. The girl defended the attack and suffered cut injuries on her hands. As she started crying for help, people rushed to her rescue and overpowered the attacker.
Bhagyaraj claimed that the girl was earlier friendly with him, but stopped talking to him in the recent days.
However, the girl told the police she treated him as a friend and stopped talking to him when he proposed to her. This seems to have irritated Bhagyaraj who decided to attack her. Police noted that both studied in the same college where he was her senior. He completed his course during lastacademic year.
The injured girl was sent to the Government Hospital in Chromepet initially, from where she was referred her to the Government Stanley Hospital for further treatment. She is said to be out of danger.
